TradeWinds 是个以航海冒险为背景的角色扮演游戏，你可以选择当个商人或是海盗，一步一步经商或是透过战役来赚取金钱，建立属于你自己的船队，甚至前往传说中的宝藏所在，发掘背后的秘密。

游戏个一开始玩家并不拥有任何船队，只有微薄的 3000 金币，你必须靠着在不同地方的买卖交易来赚取金钱才足以开始购买你的第一艘船，游戏中分为两种游戏模式，分别是 Career Mode，就是从四种角色当中选择一种，开始建立自己的海上帝国；另外 Tournament Mode 则是任选一种角色玩五年时间，然后统计分数高低。

买低卖高是赚钱的开始，当你富有了之后也能建立自己的军队士兵。游戏的操作完全都以鼠标的左键点选为主，包括选单和对话、游戏进行等等。
